After riding the bike for awhile, when I pull the clutch when coming to a stop to down shift, the bikes idle drops really low and sometimes comepletly dies. The shop I took it too couldn't figure it out even after dropping the engine to install a new water pump.

WebAug 31, 2013 · I was doing some reading. A proper idle for your bike should be between 950 and 1050 rpm. Try the seafoam route as it's cheap. Yeah the idle for that bike has to be done with a computer. It shouldn't be so low that it almost dies. Something is blocking the injectors or the efi system is going bad. WebNov 26, 2011 · Also, this engine is cold-hearted, so you have to let it warm until the idle comes up, or it will die when you try to pull away. Mine will start and idle at less than 800rpm, but I don't try to ride until it rises to about 1000; normal is set at 1100. It helps that I have electronic ignition, instead of points, to get it to idle that low.

Water is much heavier than fuel and if it got into the tank or through the air filter it will find it's way into the carbs and cause running problems. Also, if I give it gas before it dies while idling, it will sometimes die too, sometimes it will be ok for two quick throttles, and then on the 3rd throttle, it dies. Turn choke off and the engine will idle fine for a few seconds then the engine revs up to 5000 rpm or so. Also, if I give the throttle a blip the engine will rev up to 5000 rpm and stay there. The only way to stop it is to shut the engine off or apply the choke again.

A half of can of Seafoam might help clean out what ever is going on in the carb.
